Abstract
Some Notes on the Translation of an Unknown Sad Kelime-i Ali
Hadith translations have an important place among the literary genres written in a didactic style in Turkish literature of the Islamic period. These texts, which are written in mixed prose-verse or only in verse or only in prose, show the characteristics of sometimes literary and sometimes didactic texts. In this article, a manuscript written in the form of Sad Kelime-i Ali translation will be introduced with a review and text study. There are 94 Arabic aphorisms and translations in this manuscript, which is registered in Sivas Ziya Bey Manuscript Library at number 16377/3 and whose author and the century in which it was written could not be determined. In the margins of the work, there are eight untranslated aphorisms. Most of the manuscript, It has been determined that there are 94 aphorisms belonging to Hz. Ali and these aphorisms were translated in verse form. When these aphorisms are examined in terms of content, they are mostly selfish, sweet language, goodness, generosity, patience, evil of cruelty, modesty, greed, stinginess, decency, ambition, revenge, consultation, not lying, truthfulness, loyalty, taqwa, vera, well-being, ignorance, etc. It was observed that especially the words related to moral values were chosen. The copy date of the work is 1012/1604 and when it is examined in terms of language features, Old Anatolian Turkish language features are encountered. The separate writing of some suffixes that come to the words in the text, the use of vowels in the display of suffixes, etc. situations stand out. The similarities between the aphorisms and Turkish proverbs and folk sayings in the work of Sad Kelime-i Ali that we have examined have been determined.
