Abstract
An Example of Sakiname From 19th Century: Sakiname-i Necmi Baba
The poem named Sakiname-i Necmi Baba, which we
determined to belong to Omer Necmi Efendi (1230?/1815-
1307/1889), one of the 19th century divan poets, is
included in a manuscript containing 4 of the poet's favorite
poems. It is in the Süleymaniye Library Galata Mevlevi
Lodge Collection. The genre has not been addressed so far
in studies and between the 19th century sakinames. The
aim of this study is to introduce the sakiname, whose name
is not mentioned among the sakinames of the 19th century,
to the scientific world. In the notes written in various parts
of the work, there are biography sources about the poet's
life and literary personality and information that has not
been found in the studies done until today. Examination of
the Sakiname text in terms of form and content by
expressing it in Latin letters and today's language
provides information about both the poet and the literary
understanding of the century. Necmi's attitude, which
creates a unique way of expression, helps us to understand
the change that the sakinames went through in the literary
movements of the period.
