Abstract
Refutations to Sûdî-i Bosnevî
Sûdî Bosnevî, who lived in the 16th century, has gained
a great reputation and respect in the field of Turkish
Literature with the commentaries written to Bostan,
Gülistan and Divan-ı Hafiz. Sûdî explained the works in
terms of meaning and grammar in detail, and also
examined the same works which were commented by the
commentators before he did and wrote thousands of
refutations to the errors and deficiencies he saw. Therefore,
these works have become important sources in terms of
tradition of refutation by going beyond the comment’s
borders. Although Sûdî was an important searcher on
comment, he was under some criticism by following
commentators due to his explanations and commentaries
on Gulistan. Safvet who wrote comment only on preamble
of same work with Kefevî Hüseyin Efendi, who completely
commented Gülistan both rejected Sûdî ‘s works by
identifying the points which they thought they were
wrong. In these refutations where grammar subjects are
dominant, it is possible to reach many information
reflecting the competition between the commentators, the
perception of criticism in the tradition and the discipline of
Ottoman scholars. In this article, after giving information
about the mentioned works of Kefevî Hüseyin Efendi and
Safvet, the refutations in these works are classified
according to their subjects and explained with examples.
