Abstract
A View to the Literary Criticism in Classical Turkish Poetry
Although there is a general opinion accepting that
classical Turkish poetry is a tradition poem and the main
element determining the form and structure of poetry is
tradition, sometimes nontraditional approaches are also
observed in evaluation of poem or poet.
In the classical Turkish poetry tradition, the basic
criterion determining the literary value of a poem is the
beauty of words, literary sense and harmony. The life,
living style and worldview (philosophy) of the poet are the
matters that may only be secondary elements in literary
criticism. However, these secondary elements sometimes
overcome the basic criterion and cause false judgments.
This approach, which is in fact frequently encountered in
the evaluations of sufistic poetry or sufi poet, causes
misconceptions regarding the poet in the memory of society
and prevents entry into the world of poetry.
This article which is examining this matter through the
approach of Sheikh Galib to Nedîm also contains some
sociological inferences.
