Abstract
Comparison of the form and content of Ahmedî (815/1412-13)’s İskender-nâme and Behiştî (917/1511-12?)’s İskender-nâme
Ahmedi’s İskender-name was the first work in Turkish
literature written in verse for İskender poets. Ahmedi’s
İskender-name was modelled on Firdevsi’s and Nizâmi’s
books; however, Ahmedi’s work differs from Firdevsi and
Nizami in content. Ahmedi's pioneering work inspired
books written after him. In the present article, Ahmedi’s
İskender-name will be compared (both form and content)
with Behişti’s version of İskender-name which appeared a
century later. First, the article will discuss the tradition
of İskender-name in Turkish literature. Both authors’
lives, works and literary personalities will be described.
Differences and similarities in topics covered in both
Ahmedi’s and Behişti’s versions of “İskender-name will
be examined.
