Abstract
Some Remarks on the Uncatalogued Turkish Manuscripts of the State Library of Berlin (Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin)
This study presents the findings of “Uncatalogued Turkish Manuscripts in the State Library of Berlin (Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin)” project which is supported by Istanbul Medeniyet University Scientific Research Projects Unit. As the most significant state library in Germany, the State Library of Berlin, founded in 1661, is the German National Library according to international norms. The library holds more than 11 million printed materials and 10 million microfilms. It also contains over two million elements, including manuscripts, maps and historical newspapers. As of 2020, there are about 3300 Ottoman Turkish manuscripts in the Oriental Department of the library. Between 1889 and 1981, 1977 of them were described in six different catalogues. However, there is no information about the remaining Turkish manuscripts. With the scope of the project mentioned here, the basic information card has been prepared for every Ottoman Turkish manuscript that is uncatalogued. This study, which also summarizes our findings, presents some valuable samples of these uncatalogued manuscripts.
