Abstract
Analysis on Rifâ'î's Bülbül-nâme
In Divan literature many mazmuns are used to describe
the relationship between lover and beloved. The most
common one is certainly ‘the rose and the nightingale’.
Rose is a symbol for beloved’s many beauty elements. At
the same time rose is also important in our literature as a
symbol of the prophet Muhammed. In Divan poetry,
nightingale that is fond of rose is the symbol of the lover.
There is a belief about special relationship between the rose
and the bird crowing among the roses daylong. Divan
poets mention rose- nightingale relationship in their
works. In addition to that they wrote books about that
topic. It is known that the first Rose and Nightingale work
belongs to Mevlana. Second one belongs to Rifâî. In this
article Rifâî’s Bülbül-nâme is analysed in terms of form
and content and it is treated according to Alex Olrik’s
Theory of Epic Laws.
