Abstract
Seyrî and The Şehrengiz of Aleppo
There are many verse genres dealing with different
subjects in Classical Turkish Literature. Şehrengizs,
discussing beautiful people and beauties of a city, are
among these genres. One of the poets interested in this
genre in the 16th century in our literature is Seyri about
whom there is not enough information. Considering his
only known work Divan, Seyri, wrote a şehrengiz about
Aleppo, one of the important commercial and cultural
centers of Ottoman Empire.
The Şehrengiz of Aleppo, found between Seyri Divan’s
21b-28a pages, is the only work written about Aleppo in
our literature. In this şehrengiz, which was written with
mesnevi type and 127 couplets, introduced 46 beautiful
people living in Aleppo.
In this study, with the transcript of the Şehrengiz of
Aleppo, some evaluations about features of type and
content are carried out.
