Abstract


The Opinion of ‘Alî Şîr Nevâyî (1441-1501) About Mazmun and Turkish Mazmuns
Mazmun comes from Arabic (< z-m-n) means content, contents, extension; but in classical Turkish poetry this term is defined different ways by researchers, for instance; to hide a something with saying characters of it or using another words and concepts of it, a poet’s ability which is about burying of poetic meaning in poetry, metaphor, figure, expression with literary, imaginations, ideas, beliefs, allusion which is a way using by the poet for expressing his thoughts, ariginal speech, an image not used before, skill, proficiency, competence, masterstroke and mastery about saying in poem, a secret meaning in a word or couplet or line in Turkish poetry. ^Alí Şír Nevayí (1441-1501) uses this word “mazmun” in his book named Mugakamat al-lugatayn which in compares Turkish language with Persian and arranges in order a hundred Turkish words and says that there are not words or like this words have same meaning or suchlike meaning in Persian language. Some of them are sıpkar-, tamşı-, yıglamsın-, bohsa-, iñre-, siñre-, sıkta-, ökür-, inçkir-, hay hay yıgla-, telmür-, kımsan-, kızgan-, bezen-, çökür, ah ile ısıg dem, kabag and meñ. All of these words are about drinking, love, lover, darling. According to Nevayi “mazmun” means concept special to poetry.
