Abstract
Mikdâd and Miyâse Stories in Turkish Literature
The story of Mikdâd and Miyâse is a love story that was first seen in Bekrî’s Arabic biography called al-Envâr, written in the 13th century, and entered Turkish literature through translation in the following centuries. In the 14-16 centuries, various verse and verse-prose mixed forms of this story were encountered in various biographies of the prophet Muhammed. This subject was put forward as an independent masnawi by Abdî, one of the 16th century poets, apart from the siyars. In the following centuries, the stories of Mikdâd and Miyâse were found in magazines whose authors were not known. In this study, in which the identified stories will be classified and analyzed as a whole, firstly, a brief information will be given about the emergence and development of the sirah genre in Turkish literature, and then Mikdâd and Miyâse, who are the heroes of the story, will be introduced In particular, the historical and religious personality of Mikdâd bin Esved, about whom information is given in the sources, and the transformation of this personality into a legendary folk hero will be emphasized. Then, the works on Mikdâd and Miyâse, which are identified in Arabic and Iranian literature, will be mentioned. A literature review will be made about Mikdâd and Miyâse, which constitute the main axis of the study, the copies obtained as a result of scanning in manuscript libraries will be introduced, and Turkish works that contain the story of Mikdâd and Miyâse will be mentioned. In addition, legends related to Mikdâd, which has become an oral tradition in various regions of Anatolia, will also be discussed, similarities and differences in content will be revealed, and these works will be evaluated in terms of form and genre.
