Abstract

A Poetic Medicine Work Written by Azmî Mustafa Efendi, a 16th Century Poet: Risale fi't-Tibb
The works written in the Anatolian field vary according to their content as well as in terms of form. In any work written, the subject of the work is often a determining factor in its form. Therefore, the preferred form in scientific works is usually prose. However, its easy to remember and the power of rhyme encouraged people to write in verse, even if the content was scientific from time to time. Although the majority of his poems on medicine, which are scientific works, are written in prose, there are also some in verse-prose mixed and completely in verse form. Azmî Mustafa Efendi, one of the 16th century poets, gave an example of these verse medical texts written by poets or physician poets. This short verse work on medicine, which he named Risale fit-Tibb, was written in mesnevi verse. In the introductory part of the work, Azmi Mustafa Efendi kept his word short and said that there are pills, pastes and drug preparations made by many physicians and these are good for various diseases. Mentioning these under headings, he states that he wishes to be useful to people and to receive blessings. Azmi Mustafa Efendi also included in the text the remedies he narrated from the important people of the time, such as Kanuni's vizier Ayas Pasha, Sarhosh Bali, Emir Sultan, Akşemseddin, and after mentioning the beneficial aspects of the pills, pastes and drugs he mentioned, by mentioning how to make them and what remedies they contain. He also told the type and amount of use. In our study, firstly, Azmî Mustafa Efendi's life was briefly mentioned and information was given about his Risale fi't-Tibb work, then the translation of Risale fit-Tibb from Arabic letters to Latin letters was added and the dictionary of the text was added.
