Abstract

A Poet from Esrefoglu Rumi: Hamdi Efendi
There are hard ties between poets in the valley of mystical poetry, which has a strong tradition in Turkish literature. The most solid mortar that provides this bond is the heart education that the poets receive. Some of these enligheteneds who graduated from a lore school, while completing their heartfelt journey with the relationship between the disciple-murshid, some with the relationship between the father-in-law and the son-in-law, also practice poetry. Many poets who follow Yunus Emre have grown up in this kind of tradition. Hamdi Efendi, one of the representatives of the lore poetry that we are trying to introduce in this study, was born in a tradition stretching from Hacı Bayram-ı Veli to Eşrefoğlu Rûmî and from there to Abdurrahim Tirsi. He is the grandson of Eşrefoğlu Rumi, the son of Abdurrahim Tirsi and the third postniche of the Ashrafhi convent. However, when we examine the sources, we unfortunately don’t have detailed information about Hamdi Efendi. While it’s recorded that he was the owner of the divan in some sources, only the date of his death appears in some sources. The work named Menâkıb-ı Eşrefzâde, written by Abdullah Veliyuddin Bursevî, one of Hamdî Efendi's disciples, provides us with the most extensive information about both Ashrafhi lodge and Hamdî Efendi. In the study we have prepared, the life story of Hamdi Efendi, his ancestry, mystical and literary personality, the use of meter and rhyme in his poems, his language and style, and the literary genres he emphasized were evaluated and the nineteen hymns identified were transferred to the Latin alphabet. Moreover, it has been tried to evaluate Hamdi Efendi's position both in his own dervish lodge and in the tradition of mystical poetry. We focus on the fact that Hamdi Efendi's children and grandchildren are also among the Ashrafi elders like him and they’re talented in poetry and they organize divans.
