M. Süleyman Teymuroğlu And His Poems
In the 1930s, 40s, and 50s, the tradition of writing poetry with verse forms such as aruz prosody and ghazal, eulogy, masnavi, it can be said, continued by renewing the aforementioned “Divan Literature” style more or less, although it was replaced by syllabic meter and unmeasured-rhymed poetry. M. Süleyman Teymuroğlu is one of the literary figures who created poetic works in the 20th century, in a form and essence reminiscent of Classical Turkish Literature. Teymuroğlu (d. 1964), born in Van-Baskale, worked as a reporting officer in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey for thirty years after graduating from Ankara Law Faculty in 1930; He is a poet and writer who retired after the 27 May 1960 revolution. Teymuroğlu published his religious, mystical, political, and social poems, mostly written in aruz prosody and verse forms such as masnavi, murabba, and ghazal, under the name “Pınar Başında” in 1955. “Pınar Başında” can be considered as a "divance", which can be said to be similar to the divans in Classical Turkish Literature in the 20th century, not only in terms of prosody and verse forms, which are often preferred but also in terms of the use of Arabic and Persian words and phrases, as well as the poems it contains in the type of tawhid, eulogy, elegy, history, testament-name. In this article, after giving information about Teymuroğlu's life and works, his main poems, most of which are included in the aforementioned booklet, are examined in terms of form and substance; presented to the attention of the readers with their intralingual translations. Thus, it is aimed both to introduce an unknown literary figure and to deliver a poetic work, whose copies are rare, to literature lovers.
