Abstract
The Compilation of Rızayi Vani (d. in 17th Century) and Hayli’s (d. 1040/1630-31) Satire of Mavrav
Poem compilations are considered as one of the main sources of history of literature. These compilations usually contain not only the poems, whose authors were not mentioned in poet biographies or poets, whose poems could not make up to date, but also new poems of popular poets. The subject of this study is the compilation of Rızâyî-i Vânî who was one of the 17th century poets. There is no reference about him in the sources. The compilation of Rızâyî-i Vânî, besides various Turkish and Persian poems, includes a satire, which would contribute the literature of satire. Riyâzî probably copied the satire of Haylî during the 1040/1630 Bagdad Expedition which he attended at that time. For there are signs in his poems that indicates that Riyâzî also attended the expedition. The subject of our study is a poem of the 17th century poet Haylî who was recorded as a timariot in the sources. This poem according to our examination was written as a reply (nazira) to the Azmizâde Hâletî’s, Hadd-i Mestân. While some sources say that he was a diwan owner, he might be confused with Haylî-i Kırıkilisevî (d. 1098/1686-87) who lived in thesame century as him and used the same nickname. In this paper, first information will be given about Rızâyî-i Vânî Compilation, and two poets of the 17th century who shared the same nickname will be mentioned. Also Mavrol Khan, who is still regarded as a hero among the Georgians and mentioned in the Ottoman sources will be introduced. Then in order to contribute the satire literatüre, satire of Hayli will be transcribed and turned into prose.
