Abstract
Two Shehrengizs That Their Authors are Unknown: Üsküp and Budin Shehrengizs
Shehrengizs which are written in order to tell the
beauties and glories of a city are one of the poetic types
which were in demand in the classical Turkish literature
especially in 16th century. These works are very important
as they reflect the life and culture of the society that they
were written. The number of works which have been
determined in this type up to now and written for the cities
especially such as İstanbul, Edirne and Bursa in our
literature is 87. The shehrengizs of Üsküp and Budin that
their authors are unknown are the works which were
written in this type and that their existence has not known
to today. The number of works which have been written
increased to 89 with the determination of these two works.
Budin Shehrengiz is in the poetry journal which is
registered in Zühdü 226 in İstanbul Süleymaniye
Manuscript Library. The work that its writing date is
uncertain written in the form of mesnevi poetry and
consists of 148 couplets.
Moreover, Üsküp Shehrengiz is in the poetry journal
with 06 Hk 436 no in The National Library. The work that
its writing date is uncertain and written in the form of
mesnevi poetry consists of 101 couplets.
In this study, the information was given especially
about the works in shehrengiz type and which were written
in this type; then, a set of evaluations was provided about
the form and content features of Üsküp and Budin shehrengizs. At the end of the study, these two works’
transcription-included texts were involved.
