Abstract
Versified Dictionary (Tuhfe) as a Genre in Anatolia
In this study, the history of the bilingual/multilingual
versified dictionaries in Turkish literature will be
examined, starting from the first versified dictionaries
produced in Anatolia. This article will comprise three
sections. In the first section, the early Turkish versified
dictionaries will be reviewed, and the history of the
versified dictionaries in the Islamic and Turkish literature
will be emphasized. Besides, it will be argued in the light
of examples that the nisab form in Persian literature is
named tuhfe in Turkish literature. In the second part, the
features of the versified dictionaries will be discussed in
detail, and information about the first and last dictionaries
in verse will also be given. In the last section of the study,
versified dictionaries written for different purposes will be
touched.
