Abstract
An Evaluation on PhD Theses with Prose Text
In our universities, since 1922, dissertations have been
made in Turkish Language and Literature. From the very
first thesis to the end of 2018, approximately 2500 dissertations
were prepared. 573 of these dissertations were made
in Classical Turkish Literature. Of the 573 theses, only 62
are on the prose.
Theses in the field of Classical Turkish Literature started
with the critical edition of the text, then continued with
text analysis. After again the critical edition of the text, in
the early 1990s, some literal issues were addressed in the
studies. With the increase in the number of universities,
the number of universities that provide doctoral education
has also increased. This situation prepared the ground for
both the increase in the number of theses and differentiation
of the subjects. Thesis topics are mainly chosen from
verse texts, especially divan.
In this study, after the submission of 62 theses, dissertations
are examined and evaluated in terms of the year,
the university, where it was conducted, consultant, subject
and working methods. A brief information on prose is provided
before proceeding with the examination and the
discussions on the classification of texts are summarized.
Finally, the results and recommendations determined after
a general evaluation are listed.
