Abstract
On an Anonymous ‘Kıyafetname
Evaluating people’s personalities by setting out from
their physical characteristics has existed throughout the
history. Within this concept called kıyâfet and firâset in the
eastern culture, achieving the knowledge about people’s
personalities and principles by examining the parts of their
bodies ie. eyebrows, eyes, hair, cheek or feet has been taken
as a basic criterion. Also in the western culture, there are
some samples in which inferences about personalities are
made through people’s physical characteristics.
In Turkish Literature many studies, copyrighted and
translated, have been carried out on the tradition of
Kıyâfetname and Firâsetname. Some of these studies are
text and some are text-examination. In our study, after
giving some information about Kıyâfetname tradition, an
anonymous work registered to Manisa Provincial Public
Library Manuscript Collections Department will be
introduced. Whether the evaluations about the physical
characteristics in the anonymous Kıyâfetname overlaps or
not with the evaluations those of Hamdullah Hamdi’s
kıyâfetname will be analyzed.
